A Munich institution
The Augustiner-Keller at Arnulfstraße 52 was established in 1812 as a beer cellar for the Augustiner brewery — and used as a beer garden from the start. That makes it one of Munich's oldest beer gardens. Today it offers around 5,000 seats under old chestnut trees, a hall and a restaurant — and, with house Maß prices between 8.50 and 10 euros, it is among the cheapest beer gardens in the city centre.
The beer comes from Augustiner-Bräu, Munich's oldest brewery (since 1328) and by far the largest still owned by a single family. A speciality: at the Augustiner-Keller — and consistently only there — the Edelstoff beer is served from large wood-bound Hirsche, traditional wooden barrels. For that reason many consider it the best beer in Munich.
